:: Bicheno - Governor Island 2009

A group of 13 divers headed up the east coast for the weekend with faithful Thumpin' Willy to check out the lovely Bicheno, a site well-recognised as one of the top temperate water dive spots in Australia.

Pictures were taken on few dives around Governor Island, a large marine reserve less than 50m from the boat ramp. Dropping down on the eastern side of the island, a steep wall covered with kelp and hydroids takes you down to towering bommies carpeted with zoanthids and sea whips, through caves and tunnels teeming with large fish and out onto the deep sand flat at 40m where strange creatures lurk. It's easy to imagine big pelagic animals swimming around in the dark just beyond your vision...

An amazing weekend was had by all, with some divers clocking up 3-4 dives a day in fairly reasonable weather conditions (by Tasmanian standards!). Check out some more pictures taken from this weekend and other Bicheno trips in the next album (Bicheno - Waubs Bay).
