A boat full of eager divers took off from White Beach/Nubeena and headed out around the epic cliff faces of Wedge Island on the southern point of Tasmania.
The weather was perfect and we timed the swell just enough to be able to dive the ocer exposed western side of Wedge, on a mission to survey native and introduced urchin species as part of a local project to investigate the invasion of the 'black urchin'.
Good news is that none or very limited numbers of introduced urchin were found on Wedge, and the diving was amazing. HUGE boulders create giant caves and homes for marble fish, monster crays, and the odd eel. This dive is definitely not for the faint hearted though, with swells coming in strong towards the end of the dive!
