The Tasmanian Combined Clubs weekend is a great opportunity to meet divers from all over Tasmania and mainland Australia. It is held every year in sunny Bicheno on the east coast of Tasmania on the Queen's Birthday long weekend, June 12th-14th. Bicheno is home to world class diving in the famous Governor Island Marine Reserve with dive sites from 10-40 meters deep and spectacular sponge and invertebrate life. The weekend is packed full of fun and interesting events ranging from diving presentations, try dives of new equipment, the quirky Scuba Olympics, a spud hunt, a great photo competition as well as the awesome diving and probably a little too much socialising. The TUDC has booked out a house and we're hoping to take up a whole bunch of divers to represent the club in this awesome event.
Be sure to let us know by signing up on the dive calendar if you'd like to come along. You can find out more about the event in this info pack.

:: Hobart Docks cleanup - January 2010
On Saturday 9th January, thirteen divers and support crew braved the questionable water quality and jumped in at the Hobart docks to retrieve rubbish left behind by recent festivities.
A wide variety of rubbish was pulled from the murky depths, ranging from buried tractor tyres, plastic chairs, glassware and cutlery to wet weather overalls, a designer handbag and some still-packaged gouda cheese! While the gouda would have coupled nicely with the half-full bottle of pinot that was also recovered, nobody was game enough to try it. Maybe next time...
Several hundred kilograms of rubbish was recovered by divers. DPIPWE's Annie Beecroft said the day was valuable in raising pubic awareness of the extent and impacts of littering. "It also assists the Environmental Protection Authority to identify current trends in the types and sources of litter, and to implement better management practices to prevent items becoming litter", Annie said.
The club feels very strongly about marine conservation and environmental management, so it was great to get so many divers in the water. With more clean-up dives scheduled over the next few months, we hope to see even more of you next time!
