SUMMARY:Hippolyte Rocks - Jul 2026
DESCRIPTION:\n\nTwo large Islands lie about 8 kilometers to the east of the
Fortescue Bay boat ramp.\n\nThese small volcanic outcrops are very remote
and exposed. Down at the 30-meter level the water is still\, and this has
allowed a massive array of invertebrate life to grow. Just about any part
of the two islands are covered in anemones\, sea whips\, nudibranchs and
sponges. Erosion on the seaward side of the Big Hippolyte has created a lo
t of swim-throughs that are packed with life. Also\, on the northern side
of the Big Hippolyte there is a small seal colony. Any dive on the rocks u
sually attracts the attention of these animals. Don't be surprised to find
a seal looking over your shoulder during the dive!\n\nThere is a nice gar
den of sea whips in 30 meters on the western side of the Little Hippolyte.
Exposed to ocean currents the area often attracts school fish. and the vi
sibility is usually excellent.\n\nThese factors make for some of the best
diving in Tasmania and is always a TUDC Favorite!\n\nADVANCED OPEN WATER C
ERTIFICATION REQUIRED.\nIf you plan to go deeper than 30m then DEEP DIVER
QUALIFIED REQUIRED.\n\nPhoto: David Keys\n\nMeeting at Olinda Groove at 7a
m and launching from pirates bay boat ramp\n\nWith the nature of the locat
ion being exposed\, a final decision will be made on the day and if need w
e will pick a different site\, however the plan will still be to do a dive
.\n\nAnyone unwell must not attending club events.\nClub dive gear to be w
ashed with approve solution at the end of dive.\nHand sanitiser will be av
ailable at the dive.\nPlease maintain social distancing of 1.5m wherever p
 ossible during the event.

SUMMARY:Fisher Point Kelp Forest - Aug 2026
DESCRIPTION:Fisher point area is home to some of the last easily accessible
kelp forest (Macrocystis pyrifera). As the waters in Tasmania warm\, they
aren't expected to remain here long term.\n\nThis time of year\, the Kelp
is as good as it will get. When growth is vigorous\, the kelp forest is c
rowned by a dense surface canopy. The canopy acts as a nursery for juvenil
e fishes\, attracting swirling schools of small bait fish and predatory fi
sh.\n\nWe will be meeting at the Dive Shed at 7am\, driving to Southport t
o launch the boat - weather dependent.\n\nThere can be a bit of swell in t
his area\, and we will be on a boat so please consider your own safety and
  prepare accordingly.\n\n&nbsp\;\n\n
