Since 1916, the area to the west of Little Betsy Island has been used for the disposal of unwanted ships. This has created a huge concentration of 18-35m wreck dives very close to Hobart. The wrecks are very interesting, and most of the hulls are intact and home to a vast array of marine life. The floating bridge sections are covered in massive yellow and white Jewel Anemones. The wreck of the S.S “Leura” also attracts hordes of school fish.
Most of the wrecks are reasonably safe to enter, but you will need torches (tick if you want to rent one).
ADVANCED OPEN WATER WITH RECENT DIVES REQUIRED.
Nitrox is available from our mates at Southern Tas Divers, please let me know if you wish to bubble EANx.
Let’s go down on some old wrecks 🙂
Meeting at Dive Sheds, Olinda Grove Sports Grounds
Use of club Regs, BCD and weights are included in the cost of the dive if needed, you will need your own wetsuit, fins and mask.
Anyone unwell must not attending club events.
