Fisher point area is home to some of the last easily accessible kelp forest (Macrocystis pyrifera). As the waters in Tasmania warm, they aren’t expected to remain here long term. The Ziebell’s Handfish may be found on the edge of giant kelp forests. When growth is vigorous, the kelp forest is crowned by a dense surface canopy. The canopy acts as a nursery for juvenile fishes, attracting swirling schools of small bait fish and predatory fish.
We will be meeting at the Dive Shed at 7.30am, driving to Southport to launch the boat – weather dependent.
There can be a bit of swell in this area, and we will be on a boat so please consider your own safety and prepare accordingly.
Anyone unwell must not attend club events.
Hand sanitiser will be available at the dive.
Please maintain social distancing of 1.5m wherever possible during the event.
