Iron Pot
The first dive will be at the well known Iron Pot. This small island lies at the entrance to the Derwent river and best know for its iconic lighthouse. We will be able to view it’s unique square lighthouse and discover what abounds below it. Opposite the Iron pot is Hope beach where the lost wreck the The Hope and it’s disappearance along with a cargo of gold remain unknown. Iron Pot is also historically significant because of the large house which used to stand next to the lighthouse.
Gypsy Shoal
This is specifically a treasure/exploration dive. It is rumored that whalers, sailors and treasure merchants used to anchor at this very shoal to dispose of their ballast and rubbish, and with some luck… their valuable possessions too. We hope to find some broken crockery and some broken forks, as well as the abundance of marine life who like to dine at this specific shoal (or nothing at all!). Free water ascent/decent to 10m on this dive.
Launching from Margate this will be a shore boat run to the dive site.
