TUDC, LET’S CLEAN UP! SATURDAY MARCH 5th 10am-2pm

Lifting bikes, chairs, car batteries and even replica guns is all part and parcel of a Clean-up Dive at Constitution Docks!
The odd witches hat, shopping trolley, wallet, phone and sunglasses usually find their way into the water during festivities over Christmas and New Year; this dive always produces a haul.

This year we have a BIG event running!
For the last two years, our club conservation initiatives have largely been embedded in two NRM funded projects:
“Kingborough Alliance: Reducing waste in the marine and coastal environment” and “Marina Debria”: Casting the net to reduce waste in the D’entrecasteaux. Thanks to all of our efforts we managed to collect approximately 10 cubic meters of waste over the duration of the first project and intend with the new funding to add to this and increase collaboration and prevent waste entering the marine environment, with an even broader range of stakeholders.
The end goals are centered around gathering sufficient data so that all stakeholders can gather around the table (Commercial, Recreational, Council), appreciate the scale of the problem and who/how it’s being caused, and begin to devise plans for effective collaborative pollution reduction. This work stands to be a real game changer for the D’Entrecasteaux.
Get on board team!

Our friends at Tassal are providing a crane boat for lifting large items, Veolia are providing skip bins, NRM South and Sustainable Living Kingston displaying our data, and the team at Redmap have generously donated a few on-the spot prizes!
We will also have a tent showing a short film showcasing a startup for an epic cool marine bin!

Newpaper and TV reporters, Togatus and UTas Media will also be there being snap happy; we stand to see our mugs pop up around the place 😉 The more exposure we can get the better!

This is a no-cost event; we need all the divers we can get, to make the best difference we can!
ALL MEMBERS WELCOME!
FAMILY AND FRIENDS WELCOME TO COME ALONG FOR A LOOK-SEE AND A SNAG!
We are organizing free transport for Northern members to come down for the day!
Sign up and we’ll get you there!

For more detail on the project please check out our progress reports, Marine Debris Strategy Reports and the story of how Marina Debria came into being. Go to http://www.slikinfo.org/default.html
