Join us for a Debris Dive Day at George Town public jetty! TUDC is partnering up with NRM North and UTAS to run a day packed with activities that get people thinking about looking after our beautiful estuary. Skateboards, BMX’s, shopping trolleys, fishing rods, new squid jigs and even a wallet full of money are just some of the haul previously pulled up by divers in the river. Not only will we be diving to clean up trash and treasures underneath the jetty, but the day also includes the launch of Grace Ho’s new book ‘Stood in Silence’ (about her art created from collected debris), a free BBQ lunch cooked up by the crew at NRM North, presentations by Fishcare and other experts on the important critters we’re protecting, face-painting + other kids activities, support from George Town Council with debris disposal, and live footage of the dive so that all those topside can come along without even getting wet! If that’s not enough, go in the chance to win your very own copy of Grace’s book + other prizes!
We need both divers and non-divers for this event, so even if you’re not planning to jump in, come along to help us sort and record our finds. All club members + family and friends are more than welcome to come along and enjoy a snag! This event is totally FREE!
We are planning on having a bus running from uni, so let us know if you need transport.
DIVERS: remember to pick up any gear you need from the dive shed the Thursday night before the dive and bring your certification cards on the day. Bring dive knives, catch bags and gloves if you have them.
Bookings are closed for this event.
